Question How do i get root privallages on my linux suse?


I have installed suse 8.2 and i do not have root access? for example messages pop up if i want to install software, do not have permissions etc. Also could anyone tell me how to install software does not make any sense to me at the moment, all this makefile and executing..sorry if i sound dumb...very new to linux.

Type su in the terminal. You will get prompted for the root password. Enter the password and you will notice that the prompt changes from a $ character to a # character, indicating you are root. Do whatever it is you need to do and then logout by simply typing exit or hit Ctrl+D (works by default on most distributions).
