Red face how do I get programs to install from cd drive

I have just installed ubuntu 8.0.4 and I know nothing about how to get my programs from my cd`s, to install. I seem to get it to the desktop but can`t find the install program to make it function. Any help would be welcome.

Install

what kind of programs we talking about? If you have .exe (executables) they don't work on Linux.

a *.exe file IS A MICROSOFT EXECUTABLE and will ONLY run on xp or vista

also those drivers ( the linux ones) are already installed
ubuntu comes with all of the 3d party drivers
the one for your 3d card ( ati or nvidia) and your sound card
my "sound blaster "card works out of the box using pulse audio ( i use fedora)

this is about as much as i can help seeing as i don't run Ubuntu
BUT some system specs would help others

Is it a desktop or laptop?
is it a brand name ( HP,Dell,Sony,...)
what is the sound card ?

for a hp printer you use cups "common unix printing system"
there should be a gui tool for that using the Gnome desktop it " should" ? be
system /Administration /printer ??
or this
http://localhost:631/
click on the link and you will be on YOUR cups config for YOUR machine
you might want to read the ubuntu help
https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/index.html

Thumbs up hi

I guess .exe will run even on linux. we just have to mount it to the system and run it using command

./filename

filename is the one with .exe extension. All the best

A MS Windows *.exe requires " wine" to be installed and even then not all MS Windows .exe will install or run.
