How do i get my internet working?
 
Im completly new to this couldnt install windows on my computer so i tried linux and it worked. I cant get the internet to run on it and i really have no idea what im doing.

My Specs are:
AMD 64 3800+ X2 duel core processor
nVidia 6800
and a asus a8n-sli series mother board

Im using Mandrakelinux 10.1 if anyone could help me out i would appreciate it greatly

what kind of connecton do you have for internet?

Im using cox internet connected to a basic linksys router router

then in that case u might need to specify

an IP address
default route
DNS server IP

or you can do it using some tool like drakconnect as mentioned above

I suggest that you just switch to Fedora Core 4. It auto detecks the hostname, and everything else. I had the same problem while I used Vector Linux, but when I switched, the internet and everything else worked!

well i won't agree with this

here we are trying to solve the problem and not proposing other distros

also i cannot understand that how can FC4 undertand the settings required without ever giving some options, the only case can be that it ised DHCP as network card settings by default you use DHCP to connect to internet in your case
