how do I get KDE to come up in fedora 3 from the terminal window?

So, I just spent 20 minutes installing Fedora 3 on vmware.
I choose "server setup" and checked "KDE" as one of the
pieces of software that I wanted to install.

However, upon booting up for the first time, I see only:

- a blue background
- a terminal window
- a little "xclock"

So, how do I get into KDE?

- I tried "init 3" but it just returned the prompt.
- I tried "init 5" and it said:

Starting pcmcia: OK
Starting irqbalance: OK
STarting lm_sensors: OK
Starting automount:No Mountpints Defined OK
STarting anacron: OK

but at that point it just hangs.

How can I run KDE from here?

Thanks.

during the install process you probably chose to use a different WM/desktop as defualt. take a look in /etc/X11/xinit, if you're luck you should find a file called xinitrc.kde(or something similar) either rename it to xinitrc or save it to /home/[username]/.xinitrc(or is it /home/[username/.kde/xinitrc?).

hmm, here is what I have:

/etc/X11/xinit:

Xclients
xinitrc
xinitrc-common
xinitrc.d (directory)

nothing about kde.

Is there somewhere else I could look for a file with a .kde extension?

Thanks.

I think that Fedora provides a program to change your WM. I'm not sure of the name, as i'm not a Fedora user, but it's something like switchdesk (maybe switch-desk or switch-desktop). If you installed KDE then this program should allow you to migrate.

Another thing. When do you put your user name and password? Is it in a desktop manager (GUI) or in a console and then you run X? Because if you are using kdm, it allows you to choose which kind of session you want.

Excellent, that was it.
There was an option "session" when you log in which
led to a choice of "system X startup" or something and "KDE".
so now I'm in.

Thanks!
