How do I disable my firewall?

Ok, through a great deal of assistance from this board I finally have a few things up and running.

Now, when I double click on Samba Shares I get the following response:

"Unable to find any workgroups in your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall."

Soo, for the time being how do I disable the firewall. I realize it is taboo, just want to make certain this is the issue..

Slackware 12.1
KDE 3.5
T1 going through a router, while the server (the linux server) is plugged directly into the T1 box and has it's own static ip.

Thanks for the assistance you guys have been very helpful.

This has something about shutting down iptables.

For Fedora/RHEL/CentOS based distros, use chkconfig iptables off to prevent it from starting automatically. If you want to do a temporay disable, then issue a service iptables stop at the command prompt.
