How do I delete my Linux partitions?
I tried with my Fedora Core 4 CD and I guess changes don't apply unless you install or upgrade, because I pressed erase on all my partitions associated with Linux and nothing happened when I rebooted. I tried my Windows XP installation CD but nothing comes up on the screen after it says "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration...". The reason I want to delete my Linux partition is because I need to get to my Windows partition and, from the replies in the other topic I made, I am still not able to get onto it.

if Windows still installed on the primary partition or disk?
If so, get a Win98 Bootdisk (http://www.bootdisk.com) Boot the bootdisk and the run fdisk /mbr That should restore your Windows boot record |
So this will allow me to get into my Windows account?
And also... I should use a Windows 98 boot disk even though I have XP Pro? |
Yes, a Win98 boot disk will be fine for this.
I'm guessing that you installed the Linux bootloader into what's called the Master Boot Record of your disk (the very first part) - now Linux is gone, the MBR is looking at a deleted partition to boot your computer and therefore nothing works. By using fdisk to create a new MBR (as the above post instructs) it should correctly point to Windows once more and allow you to access it. |
