Question How do I create a custom live disk?

Ideally with the sole purpose of playing MP3s. It would have to be light, maybe without shell if possible and run on a number of different computers with varying sound cards. The MP3 tracks would be on the disk. I don't need network access.

I often do maintenance work in large empty offices at night but have no way to log into any of the computers and I'd like some music.

I'm pretty new to Linux.

Cheers.

sorry I can't help you on that specific question, but ...

... if the IT admin in those offices has his wits together, he'll have disabled booting from external media (floppy, CD, USB), because that could be a perfect entry for an evil intruder. So I guess your chances are, well, not exactly zero, but close to that.

You'd be better off spending some money on a cheap pocket mp3 player.

Besides, if you use a live cd to do that, then you can't use that computer for anything else, since being at work, everything you would need access to you wouldn't have. Like dervxerox said, either get an MP3 player, or just burn an audio CD or mp3 data CD with your music.

Cheers,

Josh
