how do i configure a fiberlink internet connection on ubuntu?
hello!
i use a fiberlink cable internet connection (RDS in Romania:no modem, the ip is generated automaticly when i connect). i configured my connection on ubuntu 7.4 using pppoeconf and theoreticly it works (i have to turn it on using pon dns-provider and off with poff). but i cannot open any web page (it says they can't be displayed). i tried to check the connection with ifconfig and there is an ip specified there, but no gateway. on windows, every time i open the computer i connect using the username&password i have on the network in order to acces web pages (i think this is when the ip is generated). how do i do the same on ubuntu or what should i do in order to be able to surf the web? |
Check if defaultroute and replacedefaultroute options in /etc/ppp/peers/dns-provider are present and uncommented.
If they are, show an output of # ifconfig and # route when the connection is on. |
Also check your /etc/resolv.conf file and make sure you have a nameserver listed, if you don't you can either call your ISP and ask them what DNS nameserver they use. Or you can boot into window open a command prompt type ipconfig /all and the output should list the nameserver your ISP is using. Then just edit your resolv.conf file and enter the nameserver.
