thats all that is there. Should there be more?
Usually there are also entries for the following:
when I input ifconfig yes it shows eth0. It even states that it is up and show the mac address but does not give an IP.
As I recall, ifconfig doesn't return an IP when the interface is controlled by DHCP. Do the TX/RX stats show activity (hopefully with very little packet loss)?
Do you see any network-related errors in /var/log/messages?
