where do I go to check the actual speed that my dialup 56 k modem is running at? Is there a log file or any other file ?
just in case, you may ask, I am using wolvix 1.1, however I hope it's the same thing for all versions of linux. although I don't know much of linux, I am thinking all the gui front ends are in the background calling the same device /dev/modem so there should be a common system location where the details of the /dev/modem is kept
Distribution: Mandriva 2009 X86_64 suse 11.1 X86_64 Centos X86_64 Debian X86_64 Linux MInt 86_64 OS X

Well that is while ago that I use dialup modem .and that was with suse
One of the options in suse using dial modem is kinternet to make the connection and it give you also the option to monitor the download and upload speed.
I really do not know if kinternet is widely used
But for instance the download manager of firefox gives also the download speed.
