How do I change window manager?

In general you can install a window manager using your packet manager. If you use gnome and gdm, it will be added at the gdm menu. |

I can install them. What is the gdm menu? What do I do once I am no longer in/using GNOME? |
Gdm is the login manager from gnome, where you put the login and pass
There is an option to choose the window manager at least at my debian box |
I see ... but it loads GNOME whatever window manager I choose. Is it using that window manager with GNOME? The idea is to not start GNOME at all.
