How Do I Change the Root Password


(please hello) how to change a root password..

Assuming you know the current root password: open up a terminal window, type "su" (without quotes) and enter your current password (or just login as root if you've got no GUI) and use the passwd command. That should prompt you to enter a new password.

Edit: please use more helpful thread titles in future. Also, this thread is in the wrong place (but don't go and post another thread on the same topic, as the moderators will move this one).

Or if you have sudo permissions,

$ sudo passwd root

thanks for your help thre is alot of things that i dont know right now but i hear that linux is the way to go maybe i can jump in and catch the hang of all this fairly quickly......... thanks again
