how come this happens?


After my computer is running for a few hours i do ps -ax command and the web server has stop running. why would it stop running?

Are you sure?

man ps
a select all with a tty except session leaders
x select processes without controlling tty

ps -ef
will list all processes

you can
ps -ef |more

If it truly isn't running, how was it started. Did you nohup it from
the console or does it start up on boot?. Otherwise, when you exit, it might have exited (don't know anything about webservers, but
happens with other programs that remain tied to the console). You can also look for a core file in the directory it was running in.

ps -e | grep httpd

no reason in the world why it shouldnt still be running
