I think you'll find RedHat didn't include the codecs to be able to use music and video files, eg .mp3. So you'll have to get them from other sites. Browse down this page to find relevent threads with the answer. :)

Yeah, due to the current state of audio "politics" RedHat opted to leave MP3 support out  , but you can easily download the needed software. :)

what is the software that ppl get used to play the mp3 and where is the website?
i googled thru the net, and there is one of a codec called, vorbis.

Thanks.

xmms.org

mp3 plugin is there, may well be a lot less hassle to just compil;e the whole thing yourself... vorbis (ogg) is not mp3

Or another way, that'll save you time in future is to go to freshrpms.net and get apt from there, install it, then use apt to get the plugins. In future you can check freshrpms for software you want, and use apt if it's available - will make things much simpler!

But you may want to try vorbis ogg if you burn your own Music. Speaking from experience, the sound quality is better and the size is smaller.

i use XMMS and it's pretty good, it looks like Winamp

i'm not sure it it'll work under red hat because i use SuSE but i'm pretty sure it won't give any problems

crashmeister 02-24-2003 11:04 AM

RH - no mp3 out of the box.No matter what you use.
