How can I set up internet access by tethering my BlackBerry 8330?

I have used Linux before without much problem. Recently I have moved to a new house, and no longer have a cable modem. I am now using only my tethering on my BlackBerry Curve 8330. The problem is that I have redone my desktop and have the latest version of Kubuntu. I cannot get my computer and PDA to tether.

I am able to use the tethering just fine on my Laptop with Vista. I attempted for the past two days however to get it running on Kubuntu. I tried using BlackBerry4all but it required vxpython. I attempted to install vxpython, but it had multiple dependency problems. So I loaded python, but over 50 of the tests failed. I am lost.

Since I have no internet connection on my Kubuntu computer, I cannot just have Kubuntu download the needed files. I need some specific instructions on how to download and install the necessary files to get my tethering working. BTW my phone is on the Verizon network.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

I don't use a Blackberry or tether. I would suggest that you can use a 'VM' of choice on the M$ Vista Host. Then use a client for a *buntu install. You could then setup the network for the *buntu client through Vista. :)

I use 'VirtualBox' on a Vista machine with numerous clients. Look at the 'Virtual' section of 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!
