How can I send snmp traps based on syslog messages

I'm new to the forum but have an immediate business problem. I need to be able to send snmp traps based on certain severity or content of syslog messages. Can this be done from standard linux?

Alternatively, are there MIB's out there that support syslog events so I can get the status from snmp?

Thanks
