I have wrecked Ubuntu 8.04 and want to reload it. I run a dual boot machine loading either XP and Ubuntu from Grub. I can still access XP but not Ubuntu. I tried to get into Ubuntu via ....generic- recovery.A screen full of error messages runs thro' including " Dazuko module not loaded" It then asks for login Ok then Password but it will not let me type anything.
How do I remove the old then reload Ubuntu? Thanks Jay

There is no need to remove it. Just do the new install on top.

Unfortunately I did not make clear; I cannot easily get past the Grub loading screen. when I do update is inactive and I am unable to read the Ubuntu disc at this stage.
Inserting the disc during grub will allow an install but wants to repartition the disc rather than overwritiing the existing version.

What disk are you trying to install from? Normally you will simply boot from the CD and follow the install instructions. You do not have to repartition, just install on the same partition where your current installation is located. You will choose manual partitioning to do this. You must be very careful here to make sure that manual partitioning is chosen and NOT AUTOMATIC partitioning or Ubuntu will try to take over the entire disk.

If you are reinstalling, Grub should not be involved in the re-install, as grub will be re-installed as well.

Thank you both, I am now back on Ubuntu with a good clean system.I installed using 'manual' at the partition stage. I needed to set 1 partition as root with / as it seemed to have got lost at some stage.
