How can I recompile PHP with ./configure?

Hello,

I am trying to install OCI8. I'm pretty sure the last thing I need to do is run the "./configure" command, but no matter where I try to run it, it gives me back a "file not found" or "command not found" error. I have tried this on CentOS and Fedora and always install PHP with yum. I have done many GUI searches looking through the file system for "php" and have tried to run ./configure in every php folder I can find but the command never runs. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks so much!

-Matt

P.S. Do I even need to do this if I already edited the "php.ini" file and installed OCI8 with PECL? Thanks!

1. untar the source file (tar -xzf php-xx.tar.gz)
2. cd to the php-xx
3. Now run the ./configure --help which give you all the options then you can proceed with option if need or you can just run ./configure

? Which version of PHP are you trying to build ? ?
Most version are available as SRC.RPMS, i.e "rpm source packages".

The SRC.RPMS contains a script = php.spec .
Then you can run $ rpmbuild -bb php.spec
... to be sure that the relevant <~80 configure options> are used.
! A typical php build has ./configure --<seventy-nine options> !

* php.spec can easily be edited to your extra options.

I am trying to build PHP 5.4 with just the OCI8 option. Isn't there a way to recompile the PHP instance I installed with yum? I just can't find the folder where the configure command is located.
