Do you have sound at all?
Have you ever had sound?

You need to help with some info, if you have sound ie. can play and hear audio cd's then I'd say it's a java or flash problem. If you just installed and don't have sound then that's another direction to go.

If its the latter you've never had sound, then try running the alsa setup.
Open a terminal and log in as root then run the command alsaconf

So once again give us a little more info.

Hi, i have sound playing on my system but i just got my wireless working recently so i was trying to get everything working just as under windows;i recompiled my 2.4 redhat kernel to 2.6 and i built in alsa which works except that i can't keep my settings so i would appreciate if you can help out on this as well;yesterday i was able to listen to BBc world service live on net through my realplayer so i thinking maybe its a java or flash thing as you said because a java applet that produced sound in my firefox browser on windows didnt in linux.my sound card is intel AC97 and when i ran alsaconf i see :intel8x0 intel corp:unknown device 266e(rev 03)
legacy probe ISA(non-pnp) chips

[root@localhost root]# alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

Added on sat june 7 2008(ie a day after above):i have confirm now that my firefox browser does not play sound from flash or java applet program, i could the video run but no sound at all except for realplayer related sound
