how best to track project in Github?

Hi all,

I've installed a plugin for roundcube mail on my server. This plugin is rather incomplete but thankfully appears at the moment to be actively developed on Github.

I installed the plugin simply by downloading a .zip file and copying it to the RC plugins folder. But being new to Github, I don't understand how best to keep up with current version of this project. The plugin is not mission critical for me, so I don't mind installing betas and so forth. There is probably a more intelligent way of keeping apace with development than simply picking up a zip file now and then.

Can someone give me some tips? I have both GIT and SVN installed.

use git clone, and checkout the source
periodically 'fetch'
or
Join the projects mailing list ( assuming it has one )
or
sign up for a free github account, you can then "watch" the repo and get a news feed ( on github's homepage )
