hotplug issues with wireless installation

hello all,

i'm attempting to install a driver from source for my intel 3945abg wireless card. distro is fc5. for this i have to place a ipw3945.ucode file into the hotplug firmware directory. unfortunately, no such directory exists. then i discovered that "The hotplug and device handling subsystem has undergone significant changes in Fedora Core 5. The udev method now handles all module loading, both on system boot and for hotplugged devices. The hotplug package has been removed, as it is no longer needed."

now, i could just install the hotplug package and be done with it. however, if hotplug is being phased out i'd prefer to figure out a way to use udev instead. the readme files with the driver don't offer any advice beyond installing hotplug.

anybody have any ideas?

also, please note that i am a complete newbie and am on the mother of all learning curves. so it would be much appreciated if any advice offered assumes i know absolutely nothing about linux!!
