Well this will be the 2nd time I have given Linux a try (man its complicated).
Anyhows to the point. I am hoping someone can help me with this. I have a zoom X4 router/modem and have installed the USB part of it fine on my windows machine but trying to use the ethernet port on my linux box just isn't happening. I am running Mandrake 9.2 and I open up Drakeconnect and try intalling it from there.
It automatically detects my ethernet card and goes to set it up. It asks me for the ip address and the subnet address (is this of the box or the router?), I got stuck at this but read I should just check the DHCP box, that went okay but then it asks me for a hostname. The standard one it comes up with is localhost.localdomain now I dont know wht else to put in there but when I leave it blank or when I leave localhost.localdomain there it wont connect to the internet.
In my LAN configuration box it says that eth0 is down.
I apologise if this has been asked but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if you have enabled your router to have a name, then I think that effectively makes it your domain, so your hostname would be <localhost>.<router name>
I dont know if I have setup a domain name for my router (am i able to find this out on my linux box or just my windose box since that is up and running)
