hostname issues

I need my hostname to be "Shenk"

When I issue the hostname command it says this:

Shenk.Shnockered.net

Shnockered.net is my domain name

I checked my hostname file and it says:

10.10.10.1 Shenk

What the hell do I do to get my hostname to just say "Shenk"

Somebody please help me!!?

You meant /etc/hosts. That's not the place to set hostnames. If you want to set your hostname it's:

hostname shenk

However, that doesn't set the hostname across reboots. What distro are you running? If you're running redhat, the file to edit is: /etc/sysconfig/network

-twantrd
