Hosting Linux-Based Apps in an ASP Model

Hi,

I'm new to Linux, but am learning as quickly as I can. I'm interested in creating an Application Service Provider Model, whereby I would run a Linux-based server as the host, hosting Linux apps like OpenOffice, etc.. On the client side, I'm thinking about using Embedded Linux.

This would not be on a LAN, but rather over the internet. (For what it's worth, I've found lots of hardware manufacturers that make thin-client Linux-based machines.)

What distro is best in an ASP environment? (I've run across ASP Linux, but don't know much about it.)
Will Embedded Linux be compatible with any distro I run on the Host?
Can I host apps like OpenOffice, Evolution, etc. in an ASP model?

Thanks in advance,
Todd
