/home/user/%U does not exist

Hello everyone,

I bought an Acer Aspire One with the Linpus Linux Lite version. I have never worked with Linux before so please assume I know nothing...

I managed to enable the advance mode and entered "add/remove Software". I added a few games and languages that were not activated and removed languages that I didn't need. (Did this all at once, maybe that was bad?)

When I restarted the computer and wanted to open a new Word document, I got an error message saying

/home/user/%U does not exist

Why did this happen? It worked before. And more importantly how do I fix it? Should I just add such a user? If your answer is yes, please tell me how?

Thanks,
Nina

Maybe you removed something with kind of dramatic serious dependencies...
How ever there is something wrong with the path variables if it's looking in /home/<username>/%U

I would recommend to add a new user, but I am afraid that I've never used linplus OS.
After you've managed it to add a new user, try opening a Word Document again and have a look if the failure still occurs.

Otherwise if've never worked with Linux before then give ubuntu a try.
Download the live-cd and start your system. If you feel comfortable with it you'll be able to install it instead of that linplus stuff.

No, sorry. I haven't found any solution. I used the recovery CD to reboot my system. I no longer have the problem with Open Office. But I also get that error message when I want to open the VLC player. However, after closing the error window I can use the player anyway. That was not the case with open office. That didn't work at all.

I found the solution somewhere else. Something like this, you go to the user/share/applications with the file browser and you right click in the application icon. Then you go to the last tab and erase the %U beside the application.

later

Can't alter file.

I stepped through the instructions here, but when I click on "Properties" I can't change anything. If I open the file to remove the "%U", I can't save it. Is this a Linpus Lite problem?

You have to open the windows manager from the terminal with sudo thunar

If you are tired of the frustrations of Linpus you could always replace it with a different version of Linux.. I had my Acer Aspire One reloaded the same night I brought it home. I installed Debian with the LXDE desktop. It runs pretty good !!

Hi

I have the same problem on my desktop icons, it is saying /home/user/%U does not exist.

I've done the recommended fix from cspbcn and removed the %u using terminal with sudo thunar and I can access the applications via right click / office / spreadsheet etc, but it still give the same error from the desktop icon?

This happened when I did my first batch of sofware updates. My desktop icons for email and various things like live updates are no longer responding?

Can anyone assist?
