Higher Resolution
 

I've been running Slackware 10.1 on my system for a few weeks right now and so far I'm very pleased about the entire look and feel of linux. But after a while it started to annoy me that I couldn't have that resolution of 1280x1024 I had on that other OS. Right now KDE has set the default resolution to 1024. I've installed the latest nvidia driver for my Geforce 5700 LE and I updated the xorg.conf file accordingly. At depth 24 I added the resolution I wanted but nothing happened after I re-started X. I updated KDE to 3.4 (Thought that might help). I read some other threads about this topic but I couldn't find anything that helped me.

So now I turn myself to the linux experts. :D If you can help me, please try so!

Use Ctrl+Alt+(+ or - on numpad) to switch resolutions while in X. If the resolution you want is configured correctly it will work. If you want it to be the default it should be put first in your X config file.

I tried that (read about it in some other thread) but to me it only expands everything causing me to scroll, scroll and scroll even more.

Are you sure then that your display is capable of doing a higher resolution?

Yup, positive. I just went back on windoze (slap me for that, dualboot) and I clearly saw 1280x1024.
