Help xv and gdm


Hie i am a newbie to Linux. I dont want to log on to gdm. Instead i want to start XV in the background which will display my photo gallery. How do i go about it. i am using Fedora 8

Go into your window manager config tool (you don't say what you're using), and enable auto-login. Set XV to auto-start.

Thanks. I don't want to login. I feel its a security risk if I do so. I just want to run photo viewer before the login screen appears and disabling the login screen as well. I am using gdm and Gnome on Fedora 8.

If you don't want to log in, how do you expect anything to run? GDM is the display manager, which builds your desktop. In order for it to work, and be able to build windows, etc., you need to log in. Until then, your system won't know anything about the GUI environment.

Perhaps someone knows some way of making a slideshow come up by hacking GDM, but I do not.
