Help with WINLinux

Hi,
I am a total newbie to Linux. Well i started on the wrong foot, i was told that Gentoo Linux is the best distro around so i ended up downloading it. But right now im not prepared to parttion my harddisk. So i ended up downloading WinLinux.

Here's the problem..during installation.it gave an error saying that it could not locate layout.bin. I checked the website. it offered a download for the layout.bin file but the link is outdated. So what do i do now?

need help urgently

Thank you

winlinux is not well known, you may have trouble finding people who can help you out with it.

You're right that gentoo is not a good choice for someone new to linux. You might try a distribution like Mandrake or Suse: they have well designed graphical installers that can help you with tasks like repartitioning your hard disk and resizing existing filesystems.

thanks guys!

Well i have one more question.

Is there any distro (even a basic one would do) that can be run without partitioning by HD. I really don't want to risk my data by partitioning it.

Can gentoo be configured to run via lets a CD?

Thanks again in advance

There a live Distros that can be booted through CD but unless you have a floppy, usb memory stick, or a partition on your HD you can't save anything to them. They are nice in that whenever you boot the Distro you have a freshly installed system.

Check out Knoppix
