Konnichiwa folks. I'm new to the world of Liunx and would like some general help on starting up The Gimp.
Just over the weekend, I installed Mandrake 8.0 on my Dell Pentium (specs: Pentium4 1.5 Ghz, 128mb RDRAM, 40GB hard drive with one primary DOS FAT32 partition for ME, and 1 for 2000, nvidia GeForce2 MX video adapter, etc.)
Installation seemed to go smoothly, Mandrake doesn't seemed to fully recognize my graphics card, but it works fine for most purposes. Anyhow, I've been having some trouble starting The Gimp (or even finding what folder the dang application is in).
Through the Gnome workstation I've tried opening Gimp by clicking on its icon (a fox with a sprig in his mouth), but nothing happens (I don't even get an error message or anything). I bought (yes, please forgive for actually purchasing a linux distribution, but I figure 30 bucks is a small investment if its for something as sweet as Linux) the standard edition of Mandrake, and the Gimp was listed on the back of the box as one of the packages it shipped with. I'm also pretty sure (though I can't be 100% percent sure), that I selected it during installation.
Anyhow, I have yet to successfully open and run the Gimp. This is a big problem considering Dreamworks hired me as their chief animator for their next feature "Willy and the Fudgesicle Bandits." I kind of lied on my resume about experience with open source cg and cg in general, but hopefully things will go smooth like chocalate mouse.
No, I'm not an animator, but it's important nonetheless.
