HELP with Suse FTP inst
I am trying to install SuSE 8.0 through FTP after many tries it asked me to select the swap partition, I have 3 pri partion and one extended. The hda4 is suppose to be my swap partition but for a reason or another I can not make it recognise by the installation can anyone HELLLLLLLLP.

If you'd like it to be your swap partition, it should have the right type. Linux swap is type 82 (in hexadecimal). Make sure it's set correctly or delete the partition and try to create if from the installer.

Hi
hda1-4 are pri partitions, hda5 should be your first extended one, maybe that points you in the right direction. Are these 3 pri partition already taken by other os's? Though linux needs as little as a swap and a root its always better to use more partitions like /boot(small) swap / /home /usr /var so when a partition is filling up it doesn't have to take your system with it and when upgrading you can exlude your /home from formatting etc etc regards |
Thanks everyone for the info.
But I am still do not know the way to setup a swap file. Yesterday I used something called slawk, I think. It worked from two floppies, I reach up to fdisk under linux but it gave me an error that cannot read what ever I put like fdisk /dev/hda4 any suggestion |
