Help with setting up a linux proxy

Hi guys/girls,

We have setup a Linux proxy server using IPCOP. This all seems to run fairly well. However with all things out-of-the-box there are things that we dont like!

My question is what would I need to do to implement a basic gateway to the internet using a public wireless network that we run alongside our normal wireless network. Using the same AP's.

We would like to use a captive portal too. Something that so far we have failed to get working in the manner that we would like.

Our wireless AP's are all Netgear WAGL102 and the wireless controller is a Netgear WFS 709TP.

I am fairly familiar with Redhat and Fedora and know that I can use Squid. I really just need some suggestions on things to look at. I have read so much that I am completely baffled.

Or if anybody knows of an out-of-the-box solution that wil provide the public network, push down the wpad file and give us a captive portal preferably one that can connect to AD...

I am sure that I will have missed something out from here but please just ask me if you are not clear.

Thanks in advance!

squid is not a network proxy, just a very good web proxy for very slow networks like dial up connections.

Unless your real problem is another than to setup a public network, I think your AP configuration could handle the routing by itself. Just disable the security and setup and DHCP server on it.

just my opinion
