Using Fedora 12 fresh install, the xrandr command says that the highest resolution is 800x600. However, a fresh install of Fedora 11 displays 1024x768 at startup. So I know that it can at least do that. In both installations, the display configuration utility says that the monitor is unknown.
I found this:
ATI's website (http://ati.amd.com/developer/altoschart.pdf) that says that the ATI Rage XL card is supported by Xfree86 or X.org.
What is Xfree86? If I use Xfree86, do I still have a Gnome desktop environment? I guess I want to know if it's a drastic change or is it something that runs in the background.
