Arrow Help with Packages

I downloaded some "Wine" package. Its supposed to let me run windows programs in linux. I installed the package. Now I don't know how to run it. I know its installed because when I tried to reinstall it it tells me that its already installed. I'm running Redhat 9 on my compaq prasario. I bought it about a month ago. Is it possible to run programs like Real Player and stuff in linux. I hate windows. But none of the programs I really like are on linux.

there is a real player for linux.
you have to configure wine to setup the windows
directories and stuff. it's alittle difficult for the
beginner. you run a windows program with
wine <program>

there is a link on the front of this website that list
windows program equivalents on linux.
mplayer will play more stuff than real player.

I think there's a version of Real Player for Linux, but I'm not sure about it.

Dude, there are lots of applications for whatever you want to do with Linux, if you don't know them ask for suggestions on what to use, someone will help you

Agreed. Wine is cool, but should be a last resort. Only use it when there really are no native/free software apps that do the equivalent job.

All newbies are attracted to Wine at first, because they only know Windows apps. After a few months, you'll learn what the equivalents are on Linux, and will find you no longer want or need Wine. There are exceptions of course, not all apps have native equivalents (think games, think dreamweaver/flash/etc), in which case Wine is useful

Try running notepad, just run the "notepad" command,. If that pops up OK, you can probably run programs with "wine foo.exe"
