Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I'm setting up a SuSe 9.2 PC with the following packages:
SSH (Not Running)
POP3 Mail Server (Installed IMAP but not sure how to set up)
Fax Server (Hylafax Running but modem is not configured correctly)
Service Call Software (RDSP - Not Running)
ZOPE (Not running)
Mambo (Not installed)
Road Map package (I need to compile, but have no clue how to use a compiler.)
I've been working on this for 3 weeks and figured out everything I can on my own.
For the Fax, I ran the setup for Hylafax and it then ran the modem setup. During the modem setup it asked me what serial port the modem was on. The modem is internal, not on a serial port.
For the Road Map, I need to compile the program. I downloaded the source, but have no clue on how to use a compiler. I tried once before and completely destroyed the machine and had to start over.
I'm not looking for a walk through, I'm just looking for point in the right direction to get me going again. This is my first time really getting into Linux and I really want to learn. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
