Help with Linux and Postgresql

Ok in the terminal I type in
Code:
su - postgresql
createuser -P user
then I enter the password and confirm it and make it a superuser.

Then I create a database for amarok with
Code:
createdb -O user amarok
Then in amarok I go to Settings > Configure Amarok and under Collection I select Postresgl
and select localhost under Hostname, then the default port, then amarok under Database then I fill in the username and password with what I set in the terminal. But when I hit ok I get this error message in amarok:

Quote:
Postgresql reported the following error:
FATAL: Ident authentication failed for user "user"

You can configure Postgresql in the Collection section under
Settings->Configure Amarok
So ... can anybody help me out? Why couldn't it authenticate the user if I set it up earlier?

What does your pg_hba.conf look like? It looks like postgresql is using identd to verify the user, but since you're using passwords, that's not necessary.

This is what it looks like:

# TYPE DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD

# "local" is for Unix domain socket connections only
local all all trust
# IPv4 local connections:
host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust
# IPv6 local connections:
host all all ::1/128 trust

OK, so it looks like it's not using identd, after all. According to this, you should be able to access the database locally without a password. Try it using psql (without su'ing to posgres):
Code:
psql -U user -d amarok -h localhost
If this doesn't work, post your postgresq logs. If it does, then something is wrong on the amarok side.
