help with LAN/Sound

hello

New here...and tons of questions: I have integrated LAN and SOUND card on my mobo (Abit NF7S) so I understand there`s no way on letting Linux(mandrake 9) recongnize those...is that correct?

Thanks

PS> Somone told me I have to recompile the Kernel or work on the modules!

I have no idea what it means.!

are you kidding? do you have mandrake installed and running? if you do reinstall it if these problems are occuring. i use onboard sound and lan with mandrake 9 and it works fine. hows that motherboard? i bought a piece of ---- when i built my computer and need a new one and have been eyeing the abit nf7... thanks!

it should detect and install these devices pretty much on it's own

i dont know if mandrake will necessarily detect those in general it should have no problems with onboard anything as far as recompiling your kernel you need to know which module youll need for your lan and your sound card most likely you can find that while looking through the kernel options if you do recompile but another member here might know more about your mobo and be able to tell you, as far as instructions for recompiling your kernel

www.digitalhermit.com/linux/kernel.html

it looks confusing but if you take it one step at a time you can get through it without a problem
