Help with .jar file installation


Hi everyone,
I have just installed SuSe 10.2 and am trying to install a password program called Sleutel. It downloads as a zip file which I have unzipped and placed in my /usr/bin file but when I try to run it by using
java -jar startup.jar
the disk rattles away but nothing seems to happen. I have tried it as root as well but same thing happens (or doesn't!!)
I have searched all the help files in the various forums etc. but got nowhere.

Can anyone help please??

You could try a
Code:
strace -o out java -jar startup.jar
and then look in the newly created file out whether it's complaining
about missing files or permissions or whatever may be going wrong.

sometimes you have to actually run command through X java -jar /usr/bin/startup.jar

Thanks for that, still no joy.

Tinkster I did as you suggested and it looks like there is a File or Directory missing.

I am running Gnome desktop and the start of the "out" file is as follows:-

read(3, "\177ELF\1\1\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\3\0\3\0\1\0\0\0@I\0\000"..., 512) = 512

I have placed the original file in my /usr/bin but cannot find any info on the site for installation.

sikofitt, I tried your suggestion but get an error stating "illegal X Command" or something like that.

I'm afraid that the problem will be shown close(r) to
the end of the file rather than the beginning.
