help with internet on ubuntu

Hi,

I'm just starting to use Linux and I'm using the Live version of Ubuntu before I install it. My question is: How do you set up the internet? I have cable internet and am connected to a router (my computer being the base, my roommates use their laptops off the signal) I don't know anything about Linux, so I'm stuck on even where to look. Thanks

So I figured out how to configure through the network tools. i went to the terminal and typed sudo pppoeconf and it said no working ethernet card found, it is not autodetected do you wish to load manually using modconf

i didn't know what that meant so i pressed yes to modconf but when you type that command in it says command not found.

i have a brand new dell dimension 9100 and i use a basic cable modem given to me by comcast...

With ubuntu high speed internet is very easy to set up as long as it loads the drivers, if you use wireless networking you need to find the drivers for them otherwise plug it in and it should work
