Edit: OP, what exactly was the problem with Ubuntu? You're going to have to give us more info about the hardware if you want your question answered. However, if you want to use Slack, then I'd just try getting it installed and going from there. |
There is also good information at http://slackbook.org/html/book.html. See Chapter 3 - Installation.
Good Luck! Ash. |
Thanks for the info guys will look in to these.. with ubuntu i only tried a couple of times and that was a few months ago now and cant remember exactly what was said on the screen but it would stop half way during install. So i left it then but wanted to install a distro so i thought id have a go of installing one again. Is slackware a good choice to start with or is there any other distro i should go for before slackware being that im new too this

Hi,
Welcome to LQ & Slackware! First, you may experience some setup problems with the 'ati' for your laptop. Do so some searches on the Slackware LQ forum for radeon or ati. Several have had problems with radeon, including myself. I'm working from a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a 'ATI 200M' that has taken a lot of time to setup the video for peak performance. You will get lucky with the R600 since I think that is still supported. So give Slackware a try to see if it works for you. I also suggest that you would be better posting in the 'Slackware Forum' for exposure. We don't bite! You should work out of the box with Slackware. :hattip: Just a few links to aid you; SlackwareŽ Essentials SlackwareŽ Basics Linux Documentation Project Rute Tutorial & Exposition Linux Command Guide Utimate Linux Newbie Guide LinuxSelfHelp Getting Started with Linux Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide These links and others can be found at 'Slackware-Links'.
