Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I've been battling with Linux (YDL 6.0 on my PS3) for the last several days now, and after much poking and prodding about with this thing, I finally decided to come here and ask of what I'm doing wrong.
I'm mostly trying to use emulators on it, but I can't even get the two programs I'm trying to use NOW to work. The two programs I speak of are SNES9X GTK and PrBoom.
I downloaded the .rpm packages for both, and installed them just fine. However, that's where the snag shows up. I can't run either of these programs. And they refuse to show up in Applications-->Games like people claim.
I also tried installing these programs from the terminal, but every time I try to download something, it starts, then gives me a "Nothing To Do" after the "Parsing package install arguments", and nothing happens.
I even tried installing these from the Add/Remove, but I don't see anything there. I mean, they don't even show up as "Available Packages".
Also, when I try to run these programs from the terminal, it says "Cannot execute binary".
Can someone help me out? I know the process is insanely simple from a more experienced user's standpoint, but again, I'm a n00b at Linux and have no idea what's what.
EDIT: Okay, I got some repositories and I managed to install a few programs.
However, PrBoom is telling me that "Enlightenment was unable to run the application". I also got some emulators, Mednafen and Dgen, both of which I don't know how to launch. I also got SDLMame with the Gnome Arcade front-end, but it keeps crashing.
Also, SNES9X is all that won't appear in the Add/Remove.
