Help with Installation of several programs please

Hi there

Ive tried to avoid Linux at all costs but now that Im taking a networking degree on ive been told ive got to learn at least some aspects of it.

Anyway, ive tried installtion of mandrake 10 cause a friend recommended it. Is it suitable for novices ?

Anyway, I made sure a bootloader was installed since I dont want to corrupt my winXP installation.

Ive managed to configure my WIreless network card and can access the internet.

My problem however is when I try to install the latest version of AirSnort. Ive extracted it to a new folder and opened a command shell, typing the command that it states on the web site, which is:

./autogen.sh

However, I get the following errors:

[I][I]**Error**: You must have `autoconf' installed.
Download the appropriate package for your distribution,
or get the source tarball at ftp:/ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/

**Error**: You must have `automake' installed.
You can get it from: ftp:/ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/

I understand this is probably something really simple but since I am new to this game I would really like the help.

Cheers.

Yes Mandrake is great for novices.

Fire up the Mandrake Control Centre, go to the Install software program and search for autoconf and automake. An easier way to install AirSnort might be to see if you can find a precompiled .rpm of it for Mandrake. Try searching in the MCC again, or online, or maybe add a contrib source for urpmi(aka RPMDrake aka the Install/Remove/Update/Manage software programs) via Easy Urpmi. :)
