Help with Debian 2.2r6
Hey guys, let me tell you my problem.
I managed to get up and going my LAN, with my Red Hat 7.2 box as the server and another comp. with Windoze XP. Now, I built another computer with old parts from the other 2 and I installed Debian 2.2r6 on it. I connected to the LAN and the computer ping each other, but I don't know how to set up Debian so it'll connect to the internet as a client as the Windoze PC does. Can someone help me with this? Thanks. :Pengy: |
How are you trying to connect the the internet with the
Debain box? Dailup or via LAN? |
via LAN

Is the modem connect to Linux box or Window.
If it is Windows they you need to setup modem/connect sharing? If it is Linux the you need setup ipmasq. Which distro are you using to connect to web? Check the Linux Documentation Project for IPMASQ HOWTOS: http://tldp.org |

If all the boxes have static IP address.
Add the hostname info to /etc/hosts on the RH server. if you LAN domianname name is home.net and the RH ip address is 192.168.1.1 to /etc/resolv.conf --------------- Debian -------- search home.net nameserver 192.1681.1 ---------------------------------------- and for good measure add the hostname and ip address to the /etc/hosts of Debian box. |
