help with dd needed


How do I use dd (or something) to discover what the disks and files on my computer are actually listed as for the purposes of using the dd commands, for example /dev/sda etc.

dd does not do any file/device discovery. It will happily accept just about any file you have permissions to in the filesystem. So I guess your best tool for discovering files for use with dd is ls.

You can find out the names of your disk drives by looking in /sys/block directory
