im currently burning a text file to a cd-r and im using this command that i got from the net...

[root@localhost dinglej]# cdrecord speed=2 dev=1,1,0 -data perplexity.txt

but it does'nt work...this is the message that it gives me...

So your CD-R device is not dev=1,1,0, try using something like;

cdrecord dev=/dev/cdrom -data perplexity.txt

Or find out which device number to use with cdrecord; cdrecord -scanbus

Which means the command is: cdrecord speed=2 dev=2,0,0 -data perplexity.txt

i have figured out a new command...here it is..

cdrecord -v -eject -data dev=/dev/hdd speed=16 /home/dinglej/perplexity.txt

but im producing again,another error..

and of course, again, the file was not burned.. T_T

So.. are you using scsi emulation ? If yes, your cd-burner won't be /dev/hdd , but /dev/sr0 or /dev/scd0.
If not (may be you loaded a 2.6 kernel) you must use the ATAPI tranport layer. In the latter try to determine what cdrecord assigns to your Cd-burner by
cdercord dev=ATAPI -scanbus.
you should get an output like

uhhmmm...im just curious...why do i have to update the firmware of my burner?

Because of the bugs/fixes/improvements in the older firmware versions. Revision : 'NYK1' has been replaced a number of times, the current version is NYK5 as per the link.

there is something wrong with the way i set my commands in burning the file...i tried burning files in windows system and it works well...uhhmmm....im still figuring it out...

The file being burned using the cdrecord command must be a iso9660 filesystem. You can create a iso9660 filesystem using the mkisofs utility.

BTW k3b is an excellent GUI CD writing application.

i tried making iso files but i cant burn them...
