help - what env var for dynamic lib path?

I was setting up some package. The server would not run because it could not find a dynamic library file libxxxx.so. I did a "find" and found the file in /usr/local/ssss/lib instead of /lib/ where most dynamic linked libs reside. Is there an environment variable that I can use so that /usr/local/ssss/lib will be included when looking for that library file? Or do I must move that .so file to /lib/??? thanks.

You can use environmental variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH (export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/ssss/lib) or add the diretory to /etc/ld.so.conf and then run ldconfig.

The default paths searched by linker for libraries are stored in binary file /etc/ld.so.cache. This file is created with 'ldconf' command from /etc/ld.so.conf file which is text one (and easy editable).
Of course you can also just copy the library.
