if i remember correctly, the player to download for mandrake at real's download site would be the linux rpm. it's the choice, "Linux 2.X (libc6 i386) rpm. mandrake is a rpm friendly distro and should have no problem installing this. you can also get real by downloading and installing either xine or mplayer and their respective codec packs.

you need to go to the console and log in as root
open the console and type su,
that will log you in as root
the you need install the rpm file from the console
type rpm -i <nameoffile>.rpm , i.g
rpm -i mplayer-common-1.Opre3try2-1.i386.rpm
keep in mind that mplayer has lots of dependencies and you will need to download and install them all at once. im a newbie myself, so not sure this will work. good luck

well, you may need to set the application filetype on the file. usually a right click on the file and selecting either properties or edit filetype should get you a list of applications that will be used when clicking on the file. you probably need to add real player to the list and move it to the top of the list.

here's a screenshot in konq for *.rm files that will open with real player:

welcome to linux
By far the easiest way of downloading & installing software in mandrake is by using urpmi.

Go here [http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php and fill in all the required info. This will give you a file which you copy. Open a terminal & su to root paste file and hit enter. then it is a simple matter of opening a terminal su to root type urpmi mplayer or what ever software you would like.
This downloads not only mplayer but also takes care of any dependencies
Good Luck
Regards
Sharkee
