Help w/ Gnome-Panel

I'm having a problem with Gnome-Panel in RedHat 8.0. When I start the machine as the "root" user using the Gnome interface, I get an error message telling me that Gnome-Panel has crashed. It does this in a loop about 5 times before it goes away. If I'm in KDE and type "gnome-panel & #" at a shell promp, th emenu comes, up, but I get the same error messages. And if I'm using Gnome but am not the "root" user, the panel comes up fine. Whenever I get the crash error, I notice that the toolbar is on the right side of the screen, but when I don't get the error it's on the bottom. I've seen this problem elsewhere, but couldn't find a solution that worked. I would like to unninstall then reinstall, but it wont let me, statign that other packages need it to run. Any help is appreciated.

This may be a really late reply for the user that posted, but for everyone else, this is what I did. After hours of searching on the internet for the solution to fixing this bug, I found a thread where someone said to simply drag and vertical panel to the bottom of the screen right before the error occurs. It needs to be timed quite precisely so you will need to try about 10 times before you get it. That solved the problem for me. Hope it works for you too.
