Unhappy HELP! terminal having weird character.

Whenever I tried to do a man page (let say on ls).
All the - (dash) character in the man page has been replaced by a square
or sometimes it has been replaced by a space (depending on the terminal type).

Can someone please point me to the right direction to fix this?

any help would be appreciated.

How do your language settings look like? Do you have font configured for language with more characters than English ?

This has to do with font encoding, the man pages in RedHat 8 are in UTF-8 format (Unicode).

The following should solve your problem;
In /etc/sysconfig/i18n change LANG="en_US.UTF-8" to LANG="en_US"

If that doesn't work try setting LANG to C

Good Luck
