help. . .restoring win2k

Hi,

my pc is configure to dual boot with redhat 8.0 and win2k.
But today, when I tried to login win2k, it wouldn't load and came up with a screen message like this:

booting Dos
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
error 13 invalid or unsupported executable format
press any key to continue . . . . . .

Can anyone help me to restore win2K?

I don't want to do a fresh install if at all possible.

thanks.

Try to boot your pc with a boot floppy disk, and run "fdisk /mbr" to clear the boot loader ( LILO/GRUB ), then reboot.

Hi,

would I still be able to boot into redhat linux if I used win 98 boot floppy to fdisk /mbr ?

I think the fdisk /mbr will overwrite the linux boot loader and then I can not boot back into linux after this, am I correct?

I need to have both OS - linux and windows.

I wouldn't want to loose my linux partition for anything.

further guildance on how to restore my win2K please?

Thanks.

You may want to restore your win2k first, then use win2k's boot loader to load your Linux partition. Check it @ http://jaeger.morpheus.net/linux/ntldr.php

Hi, wutuworm

Thanks for the pointer.

I think I should also make a boot floppy for booting back into linux jiust in case if I did something stupid with the window ntld.

Regards.

Right, always keep two bootdisks, one for windoz, another for Linux. :D
