Help: Recover /ect/profile

Hi everyone,

Do you know how to recover /etc/profile in SuSE 9.1?

I've just made a mistake: I created a profile.local under /etc/ folder; and this shuts YaST down. I can still restart the computer; and log on as root or a user. However, I only see the welcome screen after logging on can't do anything else.

What I know is that /etc/profile is still there. I just need to remove profile.local somehow. Could you help?

Thanks, npd

Hi, and welcome to LQ!

Do you get a working shell if you give the kernel
"single" or "init 1" as a parameter on the boot-loaders
prompt? That may be a way yo go ...

Cheers,
Tink

You could boot knoppix and mount the partition /etc/profile is on and undo what you did.
